Indonesia visa on arrival (VoA): rules, extension and limits
Last reviewed October 2, 2026
The visa on arrival (VoA) is a short-stay visa for eligible nationalities, issued when you arrive in Indonesia. It is valid for 30 days and can be extended once for another 30 days. It cannot be converted into any other stay permit, so it is not a route to a KITAS.
What the VoA gives you
According to the Directorate General of Immigration, the VoA costs Rp 500,000 and is valid for 30 days from issue. You pay at the Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) counters before the immigration checkpoint at designated entry points. The official page is dated July 2022, so confirm the current fee on imigrasi.go.id before you travel.
The requirements it lists are a passport valid for at least 6 months, a return or onward ticket and proof of VoA payment.
Visitors are also asked to complete the All Indonesia digital arrival card online before they arrive (allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id). Check that site for the current rules.
How to extend a VoA
A VoA can be extended once, for another 30 days, which makes 60 days in total. The extension is done at the immigration office closest to where you live, so start before your first 30 days run out.
There is no second extension. If you need to stay longer than 60 days, plan another route before the VoA ends.
What a VoA cannot do
The Directorate General of Immigration states that a VoA cannot be converted to another stay permit type. If you plan to live, work or invest in Indonesia, the VoA will not lead to a KITAS.
A C1 visit visa works differently. It allows an initial stay of up to 60 days, can be extended up to 180 days in total, and can be converted to a limited stay permit. If a longer stay is likely, ask which entry visa suits your plan before you fly.
If you want to stay longer
Migravia’s Visa Services help you work out which entry visa fits your trip and guide you through the application. If your goal is a longer stay, the Immigration Services cover KITAS applications, extensions and changes of stay permit type.
