How to extend your Indonesia visa
Last reviewed October 2, 2026
What you can extend depends on the visa you entered with. A visa on arrival can be extended once, for 30 days. A C1 visit visa starts at up to 60 days and can be extended several times, up to 180 days in total. Beyond that you need a stay permit such as a KITAS.
Visa on arrival: one extension of 30 days
A VoA is valid for 30 days and can be extended once for another 30 days, at the immigration office closest to where you live. It cannot be extended a second time or converted to another permit.
C1 visit visa: up to 180 days
A C1 visit visa allows an initial stay of up to 60 days from arrival. According to the Directorate General of Immigration, you can extend the stay several times, up to a maximum of 180 days in total.
Extensions can be requested online through your account on evisa.imigrasi.go.id. The C1 can also be converted to a limited stay permit, which is the route to a KITAS.
Compare before you travel
If you may want to stay longer than two months, the entry visa you choose matters. Migravia’s Visa Services can help you pick one before you fly.
- Visa on arrival: 30 days, one 30-day extension, 60 days in total, cannot be converted to another permit.
- C1 visit visa: up to 60 days at first, several extensions, 180 days in total, can be converted to a limited stay permit.
When an extension is the wrong answer
Extensions only stretch a visit. If you are working, investing or joining family in Indonesia, you need a stay permit. Start early, because a KITAS needs a sponsor and supporting documents that take time to prepare.
Migravia’s Immigration Services handle KITAS applications, extensions and changes of stay permit type, so you do not have to manage the move from visitor to resident alone.
